NORRIDGEWOCK -- Paul William Sprague, 60, of Norridgewock left this world at the place he loved best, the family camp in East Madison, on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Paul was born in Skowhegan, on July 14, 1951, the middle son of Malcolm (Mack) and Charlotte Reed Sprague. He graduated from Skowhegan Area High School in 1970 and attended Thomas College. Paul and his brother Jeffrey owned People's Garage and Sprague Chrysler Dodge Plymouth for many years. Paul married Gail Corson, formerly of Madison, on Oct. 22, 1977.
Paul enjoyed spending his free time at the family camp, surrounded by the people who loved and cared for him the most. Over the years he loved water skiing, hunting, fishing (especially with his grandson, Malcolm), and admiring and driving cars. While his children were young, it was a tradition to spend New Year's Day at camp, ice fishing. Paul devoted his life to caring for his family and friends.
Paul was predeceased by his father, Malcolm Sprague.
Surviving Paul are his wife, Gail Corson Sprague, of Norridgewock; son Barrett Sprague and wife Nicole Snyder, daughter Melissa Sprague and partner James McManus, grandsons Malcolm and Samuel Sprague, all of Portland; his mother, Charlotte Sprague, of Skowhegan; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Daphne Sprague of North Yarmouth, and Jeffrey and Barbara Sprague of Skowhegan; niece and nephews, Kaitlyn Sprague of Boston, Drew Sprague of Newmarket, N.H., and Ethan Sprague of New York City; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Neal and Candace Corson of Solon. Paul is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a local food cupboard would be appreciated.
An informal gathering will be held to celebrate Paul's life and to share stories 4-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. There will be no formal memorial service.
