CLINTON -- Sheridan Billings Bailey, 54 years of age, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012.Sheridan, known to friends and family as Shay, was born on Aug. 7, 1958, in Seville, Spain. He was the youngest child of Paul Bailey and Margaret (Beale) Bailey.
He attended elementary schools in Sagamore Beach, Mass., and Clinton, and middle and high schools in Fairfield, graduating from Lawrence High School in 1976. He also earned a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from the University of Maine.
Shay was a lover of music and mathematics, writing and playing songs, solving math equations, and sharing his love for both with others frequently. He wrote and published short stories and poetry.
He was employed in many capacities and worked during the last ten years in the Traffic Division of the Maine Department of Transportation. He was a committed member of the Riverview Cemetery Association, serving most recently as secretary of the association. He was a Cheese Head and followed his Green Bay Packers faithfully from early youth. Most memorably and remarkably, he was a loving and devoted father to his Isabelle.
Predeceasing Shay were his parents, Paul and Margaret, and his beloved Aunt Georgia. Predeceased friends include Chris Dangler and David "Bic" Bickford.
His surviving relatives are daughter Isabelle; sister Paula; brothers Nathan and Matthew; nieces Rachael, Nina, Camila, Gabrielle and nephew Travis; great-niece Nora; and the mother of his daughter, Jeanne Fales. Shay also had many friends from his time living in in Clinton, Bangor and Portland, and they all are missing him dearly.
A memorial service and reception to follow will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Brown Memorial Methodist Church in Clinton.
