SIDNEY -- Sandra Louise Rogers, 70, of Sidney, met our Lord on March 30, 2013. Born July 1, 1942, to Joseph Fortunate Doyon and Yvette Blanche Small, Sandra was the sixth of nine children in a large and loving family. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1960 and never stopped learning from her faith, her family, her garden, and her animals.
Sandra lived and loved with a generosity of spirit that was legendary. Hard-working, feisty, and competitive, Sandra enjoyed racing her sisters to grow the first tomato of the season. Family Christmas gatherings will be incomplete without her tourtiere pie, pickles, beets, and other food lovingly cultivated from her expansive gardens. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and games of all sorts.
Sandra welcomed her sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, friends and family to her home with the promise of great food, fresh country air, good laughs, and a late night game of Scrabble. The opportunity to stay at the farm was a cherished getaway for many. Sandra was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, especially to Daniel Andrews, 15, of Sidney. Her strong faith brought her through many of life's most challenging lessons.
Sandra was predeceased by her mother and father; her brother, Robert Doyon; her son, Richard Houston Andrews II; her step-daughter, Keren Preo; and her niece, Michelle Doyon. Sandra is survived by her husband of more than 30 years, James A. Rogers, of Sidney; her children, Susan Louise Rindels (Marve), of Cedar Falls, Iowa, her son, John Houston Andrews (Misty), of Shallotte, N.C., her daughter, Cassandra Buckley Andrews, of Lewiston, her stepson, Lawrence Rogers (Gerry), of Waterville, and her stepdaughter, Lisa Spalsbury (Curt), of State College, Pa., and their families. She is also survived by her siblings, Wilma Taliento, of Falmouth, Gloria Legare of Stuart, Fla., Frank Doyon (Phyllis), of Las Vegas, Nev., Judi Starr (Ron), of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Joseph Doyon, of West Gardiner, Mary Aline Marden (Harold), of Sidney, and James M. Doyon (Elaine), of Las Vegas, Nev.; and her brother Robert's widow, Yvonne Doyon, of Minot; and a multitude of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many admirers.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville, and a funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at Notre Dame Church, 112 Silver St., Waterville.
