WATERVILLE -- John Hobson, 91, departed earth for Heaven on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
He was born in Baltimore, Md., the oldest son of John Sr. and Edith Hobson. John spent his younger years in Maryland and New Jersey. He enlisted in the Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific. While there, he heard the Biblical truth of how to meet God personally and he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Upon leaving the Army, he enrolled in Seton Hall University, Philadelphia Biblical University and graduated from King's College in New York. He later took courses at home from Liberty University.
John pastored churches in North Carolina and Long Island. He spent several years ministering to inmates at a local prison, as a hospice chaplain and as an assistant pastor at Glad Tidings Church in Camp Hill, Pa.
John married Muriel Lorraine Kemmett in 1948. They had two daughters, Carol, predeceased, and Nancy, who is married to Ronald Stevens. They have three children: April and husband David Phillips of Massachusetts. Craig and wife Betsy of Readfield, with their three children; and Kevin of Quincy, Mass., brothers Colin and wife Barbara of Pennsylvania, and Allen, predeceased, Betty predeceased, wife, Daisy Hobson of N.J.; David, predeceased, and wife Carole, of Conn.; Sister, Mary Baerresen, predeceased, and husband David, of Cal.; Sister-in-law Lillian Corderio and husband Alvin, of N.J.; Cousin Susan Chipps and husband William, of N.J.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Daniel Pierce and the staff of Lakewood Continuing Care Center of Waterville for their wonderful care of John, who spent 2 years in that facility.
John's favorite Scripture verse was: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16).
A memorial service will be held at the Riverside Assembly Church, 32 Water Street, Fairfield, at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to: Campus Crusade for Christ Interna tional, P.O. Box 628222, Orlando, FL. 32862.
