ANSON -- Norbert "Nobby" G. Michaud, 68, of Anson passed away on July 16, 2013 , at the VA Hospice Unit in Augusta, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
He was born in Saco on November 16, 1944, the second child of Wilfrid and Yvette (Lacroix) Michaud. Norbert attended schools in Kennebunk and Kezar Falls and Conway, New Hampshire.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and Army National Guard with an honorable discharge. His employment included Norrwock Shoe Company, Quimby Veneer, Laverdiere's Drug Store, Somerset County Sherriff's Department. as a reserve officer, State of Maine D.O.T., and 22 years for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a building maintenance specialist.
Norbert loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing in a men's baseball league, and his true passion was basketball.
Norbert married Diana R. (Merry) Atwood, of Anson, on April 29, 1995. Norbert was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Wilfrid Michaud in 1954 and Yvette Marie Leonne (Lacroix) in 1996, several aunts and uncles and cousins.
Surviving are his wife, Diana, and her daughter, Monica Bertone and her husband, Andrew Bertone Jr., and their children, Hunter, Rachel and Sage, of Anson, his ex-wife, Sandra (Ellis) Curtis, of South Berwick, and their daughter, Michele Y. Haynes and husband Dan, and their son, Kenneth, of Georgetown, Mass., his sister, Maxine L. Stanley, of Skowhegan, two nephews: Chris Stanley and his wife, Ellen, of Norridgewock; Michael Stanley and his wife, Verna, of Skowhegan; several great-nieces and -nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins, his special friend, Bob Stanley, and other close friends and church members.
Viewing hours will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Malbons Mills Road, Skowhegan, with the Bishop Elon Firmage officiating.
