BELGRADE -- Nelson L. Doyon, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Augusta on July 26, 1931, a son of Arthur and Blanche (Quirion) Doyon.

Nelson attended Augusta schools.

He had been employed as a salesman for Frank X. Pomerleau for 28 years. He previously had been employed by Bates Mfg. -- Edwards Division.

Nelson was a 50-year life member of Le Club Calumet, a member of the North Augusta Trailblazers Snowmobile Club, Augusta Elks Lodge and the Augusta Eagles Club.

He will be remembered for his never ending smile and outgoing personality. He lived life to its fullest. He enjoyed playing poker on Monday nights for more than 40 years, most recently with Leo, Richard, Yvon, Claude, Paul, Si, Ervin and Ron. He was an avid player of horseshoes and bowling. He loved baseball and coached Little League and CYO baseball teams for several years. Most of all, he enjoyed watching the grandchildren playing sports.

Nelson's favorite summer pastime was entertaining friends and family and cruising on the party barge around Great Pond. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Vincent, Armand and Aime Doyon; three sisters, Noella Thibeau, Lucienne Couture and Christine Carney; and a son-in-law, Gary Cummings.

Nelson is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edna (Bechard) Doyon, of Belgrade; two daughters, Peggy Cummings, of Augusta and her partner, Tony Loiko, and Cathy Turgeon and her husband, Ray, of Sidney; a sister, Lorestine (Topin) Beaudoin, of Augusta; five grandchildren, Trisha Watson and her husband, Tobey, Eric Cummings and his wife, Linsey, and Brandon Cummings and his fiancee, Christine Berube, and Kayla and Kari Turgeon; four great-grandchildren, Devin, Landon, Skyler and a special little one, Bryce; sisters-in-law, Christine Dupuis and Lorraine Danforth and her husband Lawrence; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends, especially Theresa and Eddie Scholz.

Relatives and friends may visit from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where officers and members of Le Club Calumet are asked to meet at 3 p.m. and the Augusta Elks are asked to meet at 3:15 p.m. to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Avenue, Augusta. Following cremation, burial and committal prayers will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta.
