LOGAN, Ohio -- Mary Agnes Godin DeWalt, 47, of Logan, Ohio, passed away at home Monday, Nov. 19, 2012. During her 16 years in Logan, Mary was known among many as a kind, loving person with a gentle spirit, and will be especially missed by her many friends and neighbors as well as her devoted family.
Mary was born in Waterville, Maine, Aug. 31, 1965, to Robert Leo and Muriel Theresa (Rossignol) Godin, of Oakland, Maine, who survive. Surviving brothers include David (Karen) Godin, of Levant, and Richard Godin, of Embden. She is also survived by sisters Patricia Godin, of Lubec, Dr. Celine (Jac Ouellette) Godin, of South Portland, Heidi (Don) Godin Potter, of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
In 1991, Mary relocated to Columbus, Ohio, and was married July 24, 1993, to Dr. John D. DeWalt, who survives, along with their daughter, Megan Elizabeth DeWalt. Also surviving are stepsons, David (Lynne) DeWalt, of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and Mark (Paige) DeWalt, of Dublin, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Claire DeWalt, of New York City; and eight grandchildren. Having graduated from Messalonskee High School in Oakland, Mary's postsecondary studies included Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, where she earned a degree in medical technology and the Ohio State University where she earned a bachelor of science degree in natural resources. She had worked in several medical laboratories in Maine, Texas and Ohio and was the office manager of Southeastern Surgery in Lancaster, Ohio. She also had been a substitute teacher in the Logan-Hocking School System.
She was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Oakland, Maine, and attended St. John Catholic Church in Logan, Ohio.
Mary volunteered in many different areas -- at St. John's where she also served the Board of Education. She taught reading and General Educational Development diploma classes and served as an adult leader with the Hocking County 4-H Rough Riders.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 66 East Hunter St., Logan, Ohio. The Rev. Gerald L. Frazee, the Rev. Gary K. Wheeler and Monsignor William A. Dunn, officiated. Friends called from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Saturday at the church. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Waterville, Maine. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville, followed by a reception at Sacred Heart Church, Pleasant Street, Waterville.
