WATERVILLE -- Marjorie Adams Broadbent, widow of the Rev. George W. Broadbent, passed to heaven on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, with her family at her side. A resident of Seton Village, she suffered a stroke on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, and was under expert care of the Thayer Unit of MaineGeneral Medical Center and HealthReach Hospice.Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Bethany Vigue and her husband, Gerald, of Waterville; and her son, David Broadbent and his wife, Paulette, of Canal Point, Fla., and Prospect Harbor. Marjorie leaves behind five grandchildren: Scott Folsom of Labelle, Fla., William Vigue and his wife, Elizabeth, of Palmyra, Jenny Szafraniec and her husband, Larry, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., Adam Broadbent and his wife, Rachel, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and David James Broadbent and his fiancŽe, Audra Moyses, of Pensacola, Fla. Marjorie also had four great-grandchildren: Lawson Szafraniec, Shelby Szafraniec, Liam Vigue and Lily Broadbent. Marjorie is survived by two sisters, Edna Gifford of Hope Valley, R.I., and Dorothy Howland of New Bedford, Mass.
She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. George W. Broadbent, and her siblings: Joseph Adams, Norman Adams, the Rev. Sidney Adams and Nora Adams.
Marjorie was born on July 28, 1915, in Cobalt, Ontario, and at 3 years of age moved with her parents and siblings to New Bedford, Mass. Life was tough during the depression. In 1934 she married George W. Broadbent and during his time of ministry in Maine, they lived in Bangor, Pembroke, Milo, Patten, Fairfield, Brewer and Waterville.
Marjorie volunteered at the Thayer Unit of MaineGeneral Medical Center, Mount St. Joseph, and the Waterville community blood banks into her 90s. She was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church. She received several honors for her dedication to these organizations for more than 30 years. Marjorie remained entirely independent in her living until her stroke occurred.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, at Fairfield United Methodist Church, 37 Skowhegan Road (U.S. Route 201), Fairfield.
Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Fairfield, next to her husband, the Rev. George W. Broadbent.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Marjorie Broadbent Memorial Fund and mailed to Fairfield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 313, Fairfield, ME 04937.
The family thanks all those who have been so gracious with Marjorie over the 36 years since her husband passed away, especially the church community of Fairfield UMC who cherished her like her own family.
