OAKLAND -- Kathleen R. Joler, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington.
She was born in Pittsfield on April 13, 1926, the daughter of William and Louise (Murphy) Gerow. Kay grew up in Pittsfield and attended Maine Central Institute. She worked many years at the Diamond International Corp. in Oakland.
A longtime resident of Oakland, she was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Her life involved her family, especially the time she spent with her sisters. Kay was an avid reader, bingo player and enjoyed search-a-word puzzles. In her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed camping and wintering in Florida, and traveling in their motor home.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two husbands: Glendon Witham and Emmanuel Joler; a son, Glendon Witham Jr.; a daughter, Nancy Witham; stepson Wayne Joler; grandson Todd St. Peter; brothers Harold Gerow and Garfield Gerow and sister Beatrice Burgess.
Surviving are a daughter, Gail Spaulding, and husband Sammie, of Rangeley; stepdaughters: Millie Worthly and husband Kendall, of Oakland, Cynthia Peavey and husband Gordon, of Florida, Bonnie St. Peter and husband Larry, of Brunswick, and Claudia Holl and husband John, of Tennessee; brother Francis Gerow, of Virginia; sisters Hilda Powers, of Brunswick, Mary Jones, of Palermo, and Priscilla Veilleux, of Florida; two grand children: Karen Hamdlen and husband Jeremy, of Gorham, and Michael Spaulding and wife Ryee, of Readfield; three great-grandchildren: Madison and Emilee Hamdlen and Maebella Spaulding; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Orchard Park staff and nurses for the excellent care they provided to Kathleen.
Friends are invited to visit from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Notre Dame Church, Silver Street, Waterville. Spring burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Oakland.
