TOGUS -- Hector J. Breau, 82, of Elm Street, Waterville, died on Feb. 3, 2013, at VA, Togus.

He was born in Greenville on Jan. 6, 1931, one of nine children to Hector Delano Breau and Mary Madeline Comeau.

He graduated from Greenville High School in 1951 and joined the Army for two years serving as a sergeant in the Korean War.

He worked most of his life at the Wyandotte Woolen Mill until it closed in the early 1980s.

Hector married Jeannette Hebert on Jan. 2, 1954, and together they raised five children until her passing on Aug. 5, 1992, after 38 years of marriage. They loved playing beano together, and Hector loved to play cribbage.

He is survived by his children, Stephen and his wife, Nancy, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Gerry and his wife, Pat, of Windham, Cindy and her partner, Chris Simone, of Vassalboro, Darlene, of Augusta, and Susan Witham, of Waterville; his five grandchildren, Lori Breau, of Niagara Falls, Michelle Hunter and her fiancŽ, Jason Stetson, of Augusta, Allison Hunter, of Portland, Austin Witham, of Waterville, and Emily Witham, of Old Town; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Smith Jr. and Kayla Smith, both of Niagara Falls.

He is also survived by his brothers, Lionel Breau and his wife, Theresa, of Greenville, David Breau and his wife, Beverly, of Palmyra, and Patrick Breau, of Unity.

He is predeceased by his wife, Jeannette; his brothers, George, Henry and Hank; and his sisters, Victorine Breau and Lena Gravelle.

The family would like to thank the HealthReach Hospice as well as the VA Togus Hospice for the exceptional care Hector and the family received. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to play a game of cribbage with a friend or a loved one in Hector's honor.

At Hector's request, there will be a private service.

Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
