OAKLAND -- Edwin A. Woodward, 85, of Oakland, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta.
He was born in Augusta on May 1, 1927, the son of Joseph and Vera Woodward. Ed grew up around Augusta, attending Augusta schools. He served in the Army from 1945 to 1947, reaching the rank of private first class. Ed worked for the State of Maine as a boiler mechanic for many years. He was a Mason and a member of American Legion, Post 205. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and was a very talented painter.
Mr. Woodward is survived by his wife, Judith (Keene) Woodward; his son, Michael Woodward and his wife, Laura; his daughter, Brenda Hall and her husband, Calvin, of Presque Isle; his stepchildren, Frank Garboski Jr. and his wife, Barbra, of Belgrade Lakes, Lisa Garboski and her partner, Eric Petrie, of Albion, Sharon Graham and her husband, Hugh, of Farmingdale, Kelly Long and her partner, Mike Bernier, of Sidney, Amy Cox and her fiancŽ, David Burrows, of Moultonborough, N.H., and Diane Plante and her husband, Gary, of Belgrade; several brothers and sisters and many grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Burial will take place in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, in Belgrade.
