BURNHAM -- Delmont L. Chase, 79, died peacefully on Sept. 20, 2012, in Pittsfield.He was born on Feb. 12, 1933, in Burnham, the son of Walter and Dorothy (Brown) Chase. He attended local schools and proudly served our country in the Army. He married Jacqueline Cates on Jan. 28, 1953, and they shared 59 wonderful years together.
Delmont was a dependable, hard-working man. He provided a loving home for his wife and family of 10 children. He was a talented mechanic and had worked for Ethan Allen for several years in Burnham. He was a quick-witted man, full of humor and always had you laughing. He loved to tell stories of his past to anyone who would listen; he had a remarkable memory. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was known as "Gramps" to all. He will be lovingly missed and remembered. The family would like to say "thank you" to a special grandson, Todd Ramsdell, who devoted much of his time caring for his grandfather. The family would also like to thank Breck Ludden for his caring assistance throughout the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Cates Chase, of Burnham; his children, Diane Alton, of Pittsfield, David "Bugger" Chase and wife, Beverly, of Burnham, Juanita Carrow and husband, Jody, of Dixmont, Carol Chase, of Pittsfield, Marcia Chase, of Clinton, Jolene Chase, of Pittsfield, Clint Chase and wife, Laria, of Burnham, Delmont Chase and wife, Jill, of Detroit, and Brent Chase and wife, Amy, of Burnham; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mavis Chase Shaw and husband, Raynor, of Burnham; brother, Franklin Fahey and wife, Maxine, of Burnham; and uncle Everett "Cubby" Chase Sr., of Pittsfield.
He was predeceased by her parents; two sons, Breck Chase and Jerry Chase; and a sister, Ruth Basford.
A private memorial service will take place at Village Cemetery in Pittsfield.
