MADISON -- Debra Marie (Mathieu) Morse Amalfitano, 51, of Madison, passed away peacefully in her home after a long illness on July 10, 2012.

She was born Sept. 11, 1960, the daughter of Denis J. and Rachel A. (Boulette) Mathieu, and educated in Waterville schools, graduating from Waterville High School in 1978.

After many years of substitute teaching, Debra graduated from University of Maine at Augusta in 1980, and then after many more years of substitute teaching, graduated from Thomas College with a teaching degree in 2002. She worked for Waterville Junior High School for 10 years. She had a great affection for her students -- she truly cared about their education and their well-being. Debra was also an avid reader and loved movies. What she adored and loved most, though, was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Debra loved her kids and family.

She was predeceased by her maternal and paternal grandparents; and an aunt, Joan Sturtevant. Along with her parents, Debra is survived by her long-term companion, Jeff Pomerleau; a son, Justin Morse; a stepson, Curtis Morse; her companion's two daughters, Lori Pomerleau, and Patricia Ouellette and her husband, Mark Ouellette Jr., and their three sons, Mark, Christian and Asher; a sister, Susan Gagnon, and her husband, Hank, and their children, Rachel, Melanie and Matthew; close friends Kim Moxcey and Sue Simpson; and many other friends, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Veilleux Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Debra's name to the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers, 93 Silver St., Waterville, ME 4901.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville.
