ALNA -- Christopher M. Curtis, 40, of Alna, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 21, 2013.

He originated from China, son of Fred and Terry (McCaslin) Curtis Sr., where he graduated from Erskine Academy in 1992.

Chris was a gentle giant of sorts, towering and muscular, with a gentle and contemplating side. Not inclined to mince words, his face would speak volumes as his sparkling eyes and coy smirk would tell that his mind was filled with many thoughts and perhaps some private jokes.

In his spare time, Chris enjoyed auto racing, driving big rigs, tinkering on cars, lobstering with his stepson, helping others and giving back to those who helped him through some of life's difficult moments. More than anything else though, Chris loved his family.

His surviving loves include his aforementioned parents, Terry and Edward Curtis Sr.; brother Tony and wife Amy Curtis, of China, and their daughters, Hannah Corbin, of Old Orchard, and Toney Curtis, of Bowdinham; brother Fred Curtis Jr,. of China; brother Larry Curtis, of China; paternal grandmother Catherine Curtis, of Manchester; his beloved daughters, Jerica and Victoria Curtis, and stepdaughter Carissa Curtis, of Winslow; fiancŽe Angie Robbins, stepsons Bill and Zack Dunning, and two step-grandkids, all of Alna; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Arlene McCaslin; paternal grandfather Arthur Curtis; and maternal aunt, Betty McCaslin.

Though Chris's life was cut far too short, he touched many lives in his brief time here with us. He traveled a road with many hills and valleys, but never conceded defeat. He believed in moving forward in life, in growing as a person and continuously trying to help people find their paths. In his own words, he once said, "(Life) is tough. Just remember without the rest of us, you wouldn't be able to hold together. I am there with you always." Chris will be with us always. We will cherish his life and the many good memories he leaves us with.

Please join us in celebrating his life at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Winslow Baptist Church, 1040 Augusta Road, Winslow. A reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Terry Curtis, 72 McCaslin Road, South China, ME 04358, to help offset funeral expenses. An online guestbook may be signed and memories shared at www.lawrybrothers.com.
