UNITY -- Charlene Black, 81, of Unity, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012. She passed peacefully in her sleep while on vacation. She was a special and loving person and will be missed by her family and friends.

Charlene was born in Unity on June 27, 1931, daughter of Katherine Rollins and Harold Pushor. She attended Unity High School and graduated from Mount View Adult Education in 1979.

She worked 20 years at Penobscot Poultry and ended her working career serving fellow seniors in home health care.

She was involved in organizing her high school reunions and several clubs and organizations. She especially loved family get-togethers and visiting with friends. Traveling with family was a passion of hers. She was a fabulous caregiver, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and was loved by many. She gave the best hugs in the world.

She is predeceased by her parents; her husbands, Robert Carmichael, in 1969, and William Black in 1999; a daughter, Sandra Lee, in 1949; and her brothers, Roger Pushor and Curwood Pushor.

She is survived by a sister, Anne Reynolds, of Unity; three daughters, Sharon Leathers, and her husband, Allan, of Unity, Connie Carmichael, of Unity, and Janet Morse, of Unity; and a son-in-law, James Morse, of Unity. In addition, she is survived by 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and her special cousin Kenola.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Quaker Hill Church in Unity. A private burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom.
