ATHENS -- Following an extended illness, Anna Mae Martin, 81, of Athens, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.
She was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Cornville, the daughter of Harold and Gertrude (Gourley) Tuttle.
Anna graduated from Somerset Academy in Athens in the class of 1951.
She married Albert H. Martin on April 30, 1954, in Skowhegan. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother to her five children.
She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed sewing, embroidery and cooking. Anna had an adventurous spirit and created many wonderful memories for her children. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Open Bible in Athens, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and hosted Good News Clubs at her home in Athens.
Besides her husband Albert of 59 years, she leaves her four children, Julie Miller, and her husband, Donald, of Concord, N.H., Dana Martin and his wife, Nancy, of Athens, Sandy Whiting and her husband, Timothy, of Athens, and Lori Wiles and her husband, Rod, of Skowhegan; one sister, Marion Goodrich, and her husband, Lionel, of Killingworth, Conn.; two brothers, Richard Tuttle and his wife, Kathy, of Monroe, Conn., and James Tuttle and his wife, Cheryl, of Jacksonville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Dennis; her mother and father; and one sister, Virginia Lashon.
Viewing hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept.16, 2013, at the Church of the Open Bible, Main Street, Athens, with the Rev. Richard Haynie and Rev. Al Buzzell officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens, officiated by the Rev. Lawrence Wiles.
