WINSLOW -- Alice "Beverly" Knight, 78, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus, in Waterville, with family at her side. She was born Sept. 16, 1934, in Bath, one of nine children of Alfred S. Erskine and Mary Elizabeth Pero Erskine Cloutier.
Beverly was a homemaker and caretaker for many children, adults and pets in need. She was always willing to give what she had to aid others and she was a true life saver to many who met her.
Beverly was known as "Bev", "Ma Knight" or "Nana Knight" to many people.
Beverly was predeceased by her father, Alfred S. Erskine, and mother, Mary Elizabeth Pero Erskine Cloutier; husband, Nathaniel E. Knight, of Winslow; son Stephen T. Knight, of Winslow; sisters Joyce Erskine, of Bath, Betty Grant, of Winslow, and Marilyn Palmer, of Skowhegan.
Beverly is survived by her longtime companion, Frank Kent, of Winslow; daughter Treasuer M. Walde and husband, Alfred, of Winslow; former son-in-law, James R. Chamberlain, of Waterville; son Nathaniel E. Knight II, of Winslow; grandchildren Chris R. Chamberlain and wife, Katee, of South Portland, and Adam N. Chamberlain, of Winslow; sisters Patricia Holmes, of Oakland, Jackie McCommic and husband, Len, of Winslow, and Julie Ayers and husband, Denny, of Winslow; brothers Stephen Erskine, of Waterville, and Ted Erskine and wife, Linda, of South Carolina; nephews and godchildren Mike D. Ayers, of Rockland, and Mark D. Ayers, of Conway, N.H.; Frank Kent's daughters, Polly Kent, of Waterville, Teddi Blakney and husband, Mark, of Fairfield, and Kathy Pettengill and husband, Travis, of Oakland; and son Frank Kent Jr. and wife, Donna, of Vassalboro.
A celebration of Beverly's life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Howard Cemetery in Winslow. Flowers are welcomed. An online guest book may be signed and memories shared at www.lawrybroth ers.com.
