NEWBURGH - Richard "Dick" Walter Hamel, 68, passed away peacefully Jan. 8, 2014 at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born in Bangor, Aug. 12, 1945, the son of Walter M. and Renie (Bailey) Hamel.
Richard was brought up in Bangor, attended local schools and was a graduate of Beal Business College. Prior to college, Dick served his country in the Navy. He can be greatly remembered for his work ethic as he was always busy. Dick was quick to put you at ease and make you feel like a longtime friend no matter if he was selling a camper at his longtime place of employment, Webb's RV, or selling you a Christmas tree over the past 40 years at his own business, Dick Hamel's Trees and Wreaths. When Dick wasn't working, he loved dancing on Friday nights, traveling, doting on children and spending time with his family. Dick will be remembered as an honest, hardworking, nonjudgmental man; and a loving spouse, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Dick is survived by his sons, Alfred McIntyre and wife Sherelle, of Newburgh, and David L. McIntyre Jr. and girlfriend Laura Cushing, of Hermon; his daughter at heart, Pamela Rideout, of Bangor; his grandchildren, Alyssa McIntyre, Breanne McIntyre, David L. McIntyre III, Bradley McIntyre and Marcus McIntyre; his siblings, Anna Hamel, of Williamsburg, Va., Sylvia Sicard, of Rochester, N.H., and Thelma Lafferty, of Winslow; his loving girlfriend, Margaret "Maggie" Shorette, of Orono; two sisters-in-law, Louella Bernadini, of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Carol Bernadini, of Winslow; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his faithful canine companion, Cuddles. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Lucie E. Hamel; brothers Harold, Clarence and Norman Bernadini; and a sister, Alice Gross.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden.
