WINSLOW - Richard Dale Smith (Charlie Lewis), 53, passed away celebrating life on Dec. 6, 2013.
Born July 16, 1960, Charlie grew up on the Cushman Road in Winslow. He graduated from Winslow High School, class of 1979, where he played hockey, football and also held the record for men's gymnastics peg board wall climb.
He worked as a union construction worker until the time of his death. He thoroughly enjoyed his work which took him to many parts of the country.
As a member of the Men's Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, his "best of times" were spent at the Waterville VFW with his family of friends. Charlie was his own person with passion for a good time. He had a sense of humor and infectious laugh that will be greatly missed.
Charlie was an ardent fan of the New York Giants, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and NASCAR.
He was predeceased by parents Victor E. and Florence Fitton Lewis.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Gerry; twin sister Tina Smith Vickery; sisters Jean Lewis Wynne and her children, Randy and Kiley Wynne and their families, and Donna Lewis Boutin and her children, Bryan Dionne, Cori Dionne, and their families, and Trevor and Bethany Boutin; his granddaughter, Kyla Gallant; his special lady friend, Ellie; along with his beloved "big black dog," Moose.
A celebration of "Charlie's" life for friends and family will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Waterville VFW. A graveside burial will take place at Green Lawn Cemetery in Clinton in the spring 2014.
