Raymond Gille Demers(1946-2013)

MADISON - Raymond G. Demers, 67, died peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, Dec. 25, 2013, at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, with his wife of 15 years by his side. He had been battling cancer since fall. Raymond was born March 25, 1946, in Valleyfield, Quebec, to Joseph and Diane (Pratte) Demers. After graduating from Madison Area Memorial High School with the Class of 1965, Ray graduated from Bentley College in Waltham, Mass., in 1969, with a BS in finance/accounting. He was employed for 34 years as a financial analyst for International Paper Company in Jay and retired in 2003.

His parents Joseph and Diane Demers predeceased him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Clark Demers, of Madison; his brother, Jean Demers and his wife, Corilee Jo, of Vassalboro; his treasured nephews, Jeff and Jay Demers and their families; his stepchildren, Mickey Paine and her wife, Bec Nelson, of Bellingham, Wash.; Samantha Paradis and her husband, Andrew, of Anson; and Johann Paine, currently of Anson; and his cherished granddaughter, Anastasia Paradis.

Ray was a wonderful husband and brother and had many good friends. A fantastic cribbage player, Ray also enjoyed pool, bowling and a cold beer at the VFW. Raymond and Wanda travelled extensively together, enjoying trips to Boston to see the Red Sox, Florida to visit family and Las Vegas to beat the house at video poker as well as explore the desert and Colorado River.

During his last month, he was lovingly cared for in his home by the wonderful staff of Maine General Homecare & Hospice. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to Maine General Homecare & Hospice, 10 Water Street, suite 307, Waterville, ME 04901. A private graveside service will be held in the spring. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.
