BEDFORD, N.H. - Margaret "Peggy" Ellen Merrow passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Oakland, Maine, Feb. 10, 1928, the daughter of Mark and Margaret (Mosher) Hurd.
Raised in Oakland, she studied piano for nine years, and enjoyed playing basketball in high school. Peg graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, majoring in both history and English.
She was joined in marriage with Robert L. Merrow Sr. in 1950, and relocated to Bedford, residing there for 60 years. Peg taught both English and history for many years with the Litchfield Public School District, and took great pleasure in helping to influence young minds. She enjoyed reading, genealogy and preserving history.
Peg joined Bedford Presbyterian Church in 1958, and as an active member for 56 years, she participated in the Ladies Circle and the Unity Club. She loved music and singing hymns, especially with her father.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, joining in celebration of her mother's 100th birthday. Peg found great joy in sharing news and photos of her family, she was very proud of all of them.
Peg is survived by two children, Margo Merrow Karamanoogian and partner Percy St. John, and Robert L. Merrow Jr. and wife Pam; four grandchildren, Kori and Kyle Karamanoogian, Amy Mojica and husband Kern, and Matthew Merrow; two great-grandchildren, Damien and Kiera Mojica; a sister, Ruth St. Peter Bickford; a brother-in-law, Thomas Poole; a former son-in-law, Kenneth Karamanoogian; and many nieces and nephews. Peg was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Bob, in 1993; a sister, Elizabeth Poole; and a brother, William Hurd.
Calling hour will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, in Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St., Manchester, N.H.
The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, in Bedford Presbyterian Church, 4 Church Road, Bedford, N.H. A graveside committal service will take place at 1 pm, Saturday, May 3, 2014, in Howard Cemetery, Winslow, Maine.
