WATERVILLE - Joan M. Maheu, 78, of Waterville, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 21, 2013, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus in Waterville.
She was born in Waterville on Nov. 18, 1935, the daughter of Edward Frappier and Louise (Pelletier) Carrigan.
Joan married Whitey Maheu on Feb. 12, 1994. She worked at Hathaway Shirt Co. until she retired, and also worked as a bartender at the Waterville Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She was a lifetime member and past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Post 1285, in Waterville. Joan and Whitey ran the weekly cribbage tournaments at the VFW. She loved playing cribbage, especially beating Whitey. She spent many Saturdays at the VFW making and selling hotdogs, the proceeds of which went to charities.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, as well as a friend to many. She will be missed greatly.
She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Terrie Jean; and husbands Tommy Veilleux and Whitey Maheu.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Moores, and her husband, Scott, Vickie Goldrup and her fiance, Kevin Ferrigan, and Lisa Coleman and her husband, Louis; her brothers, Junior Frappier and his wife, Jackie, Joseph Carrigan and his wife, Theresa, and Victor Carrigan; her grandchildren, Brian Moores and his wife, Melissa, Christopher Gerry, Kimberly French and her husband, Joel, Erika Curtis and her husband, Frank, and Leticia, Alicia and Savanah Coleman; her great-grandchildren Mya, Julia, Kyla, Hailey, Lila, Deandray, Deontae, Dya and Yunique; her special friends, Polly Boothby, Pat Williams, and Randy Goldrup and Dale Macklin, who were like the sons she never had; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Waterville VFW, Dr. Neilson, Dr. Kassman and special angel Kath C.

There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of life will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 at the VFW, 51 Water St., Waterville. Burial will be held in the spring at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield.
