WATERVILLE - Gerald F. Joseph Sr., of Waterville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a long illness Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at the hospice unit at the VA Maine Healthcare Systems-Togus.
He was born in Waterville on March 27, 1935, first born child of Frank Joseph and Lucille Poirier Joseph. He attended Waterville schools and enlisted in the Navy in 1952, serving during the Korean conflict on the USS New Jersey.
He was a member of St. Joseph Maronite Church and served on the parish counsel.
He is survived by four children, Gerald Joseph Jr., of Waterville, Cheryl Tuggle, of Farmington, Conn., David Joseph and his wife, Tonda, of Waterville, and Paul Joseph, of Waterville; his siblings: sister Sheila Bonenfant, of Oakland, and brother Richard Joseph and wife Laurie, of Holiday, Fla.; his grandchildren, Sarah Doyle and her husband, Tim, Joshua Tuggle, Joann Bedillion and her husband, Damon, Leah Tuggle, Bethany Tuttle and her husband, Jason, and Dylan and Jessica Joseph; and his wife, Marina Joseph, of New Jersey. He is also survived by four great-grandsons, Elijah and Micah Tuggle, Connor Doyle and Wyatt Tuttle; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Alton Rancourt and Don Bonenfant.
The family wishes to thank the "special angels" in Hospice Unit at the Maine Veterans' Healthcare System for their compassionate and loving care of Jerry and his family.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to the Hospice Unit at the Maine Veterans' Healthcare System.
At his request, there will be no visiting hours, but a memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at St. Joseph's Maronite Church on Front Street in Waterville.
