HARMONY -- Earle B. Lawler, 70, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 29, 2012, in Boston, after complications from heart surgery. He was born in Harmony on Jan 17, 1942, the youngest of Virgie (Shorey) and Marshall Lawler's 13 children. Earle graduated from Harmony High School, class of 1960, before enlisting in the Army
. During his time at Fort Knox, Ky., Earle met Nancy and her two children, Ambra and Les. They became a family on July 10, 1965, and the next year they welcomed a daughter, Gloria, into the fold. In 1970, Earle returned to Harmony with his family.
After working several years as a self-employed woodsman, Earle went to work for C.N. Brown, where he was a commercial truck driver and installed underground gas tanks. In 1992, Earle, thinking he was going to help with a quick project, went to work at Irving Tanning. That project turned into 19 years in maintenance and as a licensed boiler technician at the tannery. Earle served for four years as the town of Harmony's road commissioner. He was an early supporter of the Harmony Ambulance Service and helped the Fire Department any way he could.
Earle had a sense of humor that was both highbrow and Mainer, and he had a nickname for everyone. He enjoyed many hobbies, but he enjoyed them more when he shared them with his family, especially his grandchildren. Gardening with his granddaughter and exchanging cryptic notes with her kept both of them amused. Earle loved fishing and sharing that passion with his grandsons. He looked forward to the men's annual fishing trip in the summer and ice fishing with friends in January. Earle taught his grandsons how to run heavy equipment and all about the woods. He looked forward to teaching "This" and "That" how to drive a standard on their new driver's permits. Whether at a corn roast or the Christmas party, Earle was thoroughly entertained with his Neal nieces' and nephew's music.
Earle was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Albin) Lawler; children Gloria Bagley and her husband, Brian, Ambra Sinclair and her husband, Keith, and Les Moser; grandchildren Nicholas Moser, Brittany Paradis and her husband, Andrew, Daniel Moser and his wife, Brittany, David Sinclair and his wife, Carol, Logan Bagley and Jacob Sinclair; two sisters; two brothers; many nieces, nephews and extended family members; special friend William Gourley; and unofficial grandson Adrian Bussell.
A celebration of Earle's life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Harmony Baptist Church, Harmony, with pastor Henry Thibodaux III officiating. Interment with military honors will take place in the spring at Wormlight Cemetery, Harmony.
Earle's family extend their gratitude to Dr. Kristin Holm, whose knowledge and compassion meant so much to Earle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Harmony Regional Ambulance Service or Harmony Volunteer Fire Department, 37 North Road, Harmony, ME 04942.
