Dawn Y. Grindall

1926-2013

WATERVILLE - Dawn Y. Grindall, 87, died peacefully in Waterville on Nov. 25, 2013. She was born Feb. 23, 1926 in Madison a daughter of the late Alton B. and Beatrice (Lounsbury) McGee, and graduated from Madison High School in 1944.

On May 25, 1963 she married Harry S. Grindall Jr. in Carson City, Nev. They lived in California and Lebanon, Ore., where she was employed as a clerk in department stores and later as a hostess in a family-style restaurant. Her husband died June 30, 1982.

She returned to the Waterville area in 1991 and for a time did volunteer work at Inland Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fairfield; the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 51, Lebanon, Ore.; MacCrillis-Rousseau Post, VFW Auxiliary, Winslow; and Merrymeeting Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Fairfield. She enjoyed bowling and reading.

She is survived by two sons: Randolph F. Johnson and wife Dianne, of Fairfield, and Robert A. Johnson and wife Wanda, of Houston, Texas; four sisters: Mrs. Wendall (Betty H.) Moore, of Farmington, Mrs. Robert (Norma) Brown, of Randolph, Mass.; Mrs. Thomas (Darcy I.) Lyons, of Skowhegan, and Mrs. Sylvio (Linda J.) LeVesque, of Lisbon; two brothers; Joseph M. McGee and wife Tokiko, of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Carl C. McGee and wife Audrey, of New Glouster, a brother-in law Ansel Grindall, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to niece, Martha Audet, for the loving care and companionship she gave Dawn.

She was predeceased by a sister Ruth M. Daggett and two brothers; Allen L. McGee and Lynn E. McGee and a stepdaughter Tina Grindall Norvich.

At Dawn's request there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A committal service will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta, Maine at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013.
